I apologize for the late review of Thani Oruvan.I watched Thani Oruvan movie on yesterday only in VOX Cinemas Dubai. After watched the movie i feel Siddharth Abhimanyu will rank among the best villains in Kollywood whereas Mithran IPS will be the best police officer after Raghavan IPS(Kamal Haasan in ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’).
Director Raja is back after a gap of four years with 'Thani Oruvan'. This time he has joined again with his brother Jayam Ravi with whom he has given four super hits out of five films.Thani Oruvan makes the most of the sustained cat-and-mouse game between Mithran and Siddharth. The film as promoted, in simple words, is the combat between good versus evil. For any film whose premise rests on this age old conflict, it is imperative that there is a powerful adversary to elevate the protagonist.
For Jayam Ravi this is the best after 'Peraanmani' and this will be one of the most memorable films in the actor's career. The role is a very intense one and he displays an array of emotions to perfection be it when he plans his every move with precision, when he rejects Nayanthara's advances towards him or when he loses every round to Arvind Swamy.. His standout sequence is when he loses himself to frustration and cowers down and then bounces back when Nayanthara points him his mistake.Nayanthara character has a really important role to play and the talented and experienced lass pulls it off successfully.
For Arvind Swami, Thani Oruvan is easily a significant film in his career and he is the showstopper here. His swagger and arrogance add a new dimension to the role. It is refreshing to see a villain with a lot of grey matter and style. The conceited smile he gives in the hospital lift after seeing Ravi is the cherry on the cake.Thambi Ramaiah as the father of Arvind Swamy has done his puppet character delightfully and he is the one who provides the much needed comic relief hitting the bull's eye every time he appears on screen. Others in the cast like Ganesh Venkatraman, Mugda Godse, Nasser, Harish Uttaman, Vamsi Krishna are apt and special mention is due to Rahul Madhav who plays the Malayali cop who sacrifices himself for his friend.

Cinematographer Ramji brings the sheen, gloss and strength to the frames with his lighting and angle.Totally Raja delivers a commercial entertainer with all its necessary elements in an intelligent manner.
Verdict: Thani Oruvan is completely new and refreshing thriller which is on par with any international films of its genre.
