Actress Sukumari who was under treatment for burn injuries at Global hospital, Tuesday passed away due to a cardiac arrest.
She had suffered the burns when she lit a temple lamp. She was under the treatment at the hospital here, where she underwent a plastic surgery. During this course, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and an ex-actress Jayalalitha had visited Sukumari.
Born in 1938, she started her acting career from the age of 10 and has done more than 2500 films.
She was awarded the Padma shri by the Government in 2003 and was awarded the National Film awards for Best supporting Actress in Namma Graamam in 2011.
She has donned the role of mother, grandmother, aunt and many other to various actors in the stardom.
