Many Malayalam movies beacame the turning points of carrer to many actors and directors.Here’s a look at some famous remakes that becomes superhit in Kollywood.

1. Original: Manichitrathazhu (1993) | Remake: Chandramkuhi (2005) 

Manichitrathazhu  is  psychological thriller film written by Madhu Muttam, directed by Fazil.The story is based on a tragedy that happened in Alummoottil Tharavadu, a famous central Travancore family, in the 19th century.The film dealt with an unusual theme which was not common in Indian cinema at the time but it proceeded to become a high grosser at the box-office and it was critically acclaimed as well.The film stars Mohanlal, Shobhana,Suresh Gopi in the main roles. The remake in tamil is Chandramukhi is adirected by P. Vasu.he film features Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Jyothika and Nayantara leading.The film received positive reviews and was a box office success, grossing ₹ 650-750 million worldwide. It was the longest running South Indian film, with a theatrical run of 890 days.

2.Original:Friends (1999) | Remake: Friends(2001) 
Director Siddique, after finding success through his 1999 Malayalam film Friends, starring Jayaram, Mukesh, Sreenivasan,Meena went on to remake the film in Tamil(2001) with Vijay, Suriya and Ramesh Khanna and Devayani in the lead. He also retained the original title.Both films are Blockbusters.On this movie Vijay and Surya acted together first time.The comedies of this movies are now also superhits in television.








3.Original:Thenmavin Kombath (1999) | Remake: Muthu (2001) 
Thenmavin Kombath  is a 1994 Malayalam musical drama film written and directed by Priyadarshan,and starring Mohanlal, Shobana.The film emerged as a blockbuster at the Kerala box office and became the highest grossing Malayalam film of 1994 and got a run of 250 days at the theaters. The film is among the best comedy films in the history of Malayalam cinema.[3] The film received two National Film Awards and five Kerala State Film Awards in various categories .The film got remake in tamil, Rajinikanth starrer Muthu directed by K. S. Ravikumar. The film stars Rajinikanth, Meena, and Sarath Babu. It was the debut film for K. S. Ravikumar with Rajinikanth.It was the first Indian film to have a major success in Japan and earned Rajnikanth, a huge fan following in Japan.








4.Original:Chronic Bachelor (2003) | Remake:Engal Anna (2004)
This multistarrer featuring Vijayakanth, Prabhu Deva and Pandiarajan was directed by Siddique in the year 2004. The original too was helmed by him under the name Chronic Bachelor (2003) featuring Mammootty, Mukesh,Rambha abd Bhavana.Both films are superhits and Engal Anna was  managed to collect 30 crores.








5.Original: Drishyam (2013) | Remake: Papanasam (2015) 
Kamal Haasan can certainly smell a good script anywhere. The actor knew that the gripping storyline.Drishyam is a story of an ordinary family whose life turns upside down one day. Roping in the same director (Jeetu Joseph) to helm the Tamil remake was a masterstroke that worked in the film’s favour.Mohanlal and Meena are the leading actors in Drishyam.Drishyam is the highest grossing film in Malayalam Film Industry.The movie is remaked to every main languages in India.




6.Original: Aniyathipravu (1997) | Remake: Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997) 

When you have a love story with the couple hailing from different communities, it always makes for an interesting film. That’s perhaps why this Malayalam film starring Kunchako Boban and Shalini was remade with Vijay in Tamil almost immediately, and turned out to be a turning point in his career. The film became a blockbuster soon after release and was dubbed by critics as a "classic", with the lead pair in the film profiting from the widespread success.Music played an important role in the success of both films.Aniyathipravu is the debut movie of Kunchako Boban and the movie ran 225 days in Kerala.






7.Original:Kireedam (1989) | Remake: Kireedam (2007) 
Kireedam is a story of  a father who dreaming his son joining the police force. The movie is a classic in Malayalam starring Mohanlal was ‘repackaged’ after 17 years with fresh elements to suit the Tamil audience and it starred Ajith Kumar in the lead role with Trisha Krishnan and Rajkiran in other pivotal roles.In tamil they have changed the climax. Mohanlal won the 1989 National Film Award-Special Jury Award "for portraying young man's agony and pain marvellously and in unique style". 

8.Original:Bodyguard (2010) | Remake: Kireedam (2011) 

Bodyguard is a 2010 malayalm film written and directed by Siddique. It stars Dileep and Nayantara in the lead roles. This film was Nayantara's comeback to Malayalam cinema after a gap of four years, and it is the first time that Dileep had worked with Siddique. As Bodyguard became moderate success in Kerala and its respective remakes went on to become huge hits in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu. Kaavalan  is the remake of Siddique's Malayalam filmBodyguard. It features Vijay and Asin.Kaavalan released on 15 January 2011 on Pongal Day to generally positive reviews and was declared a BlockBuster at the Boxoffice .The Movie was selected to be screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival out of many projects submitted by India.The film had a successful 100 days theatrical run at many Centres.








9.Original: Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum (1999) | Remake: Kasi (2001) 
Vikram has played the lead in many critically-acclaimed films, but is still remembered for his   portrayal of a blind poet and singer in Kasi. The film was helmed by Vinayan, who had made the same script into a Malayalam film a couple of years ago with Kalabhavan Mani in the lead. Vikram have won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Kasi.




10.Original:Summer In Bethleham(1998) | Remake:Lesa Lesa(2003)
Summer in Bethlehem is a 1998 Malayalam film written by Ranjith and directed by Sibi Malayil. It stars Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, and Manju Warrier with a cameo appearance by Mohanlal. The film was shot among the forest hills and farms of Ooty (Ootacamund). It tells the story of Ravishankar, the bumbling friend of a successful landowner Dennis and the vacation visit by Ravishankar's relatives in Dennis's estate known as Bethlehem Estates in Chandragiri.The movie was blockbuster in Kerala.Later the film have remaked to Tamil  Lesa Lesa by Priyadarshan and it stars Madhavan,Shyam,Trisha in the main roles.



11.Original: Kunjikoonan (2002) 
     Remake: Perazhagan (2004) 
There’s a violent, grim college student on one hand, and then, there’s a lovable, happy-go-lucky hunchback. Both these roles were played by Suriya, who was lauded for his performance, especially that of the hunchback. Dileep played the dual role in the Malayalam original.Both films are superhits.
