Vijay joins the 100 cr club!

The 100 crore club in Bollywood is going strong with movies repeatedly crossing the mark each festive season and even otherwise. The trend that started with Ghajini has seen numerous films like 3 idiots, Dabangg, Housefull, Ready and more hit the bull’s eye. Now it looks it has started in Kollywood with Thuppakki.

Vijay is the second person after Rajinikanth to join the 100 crore club. As the trade is buzzing with this news, the actor is happy too. Says Vijay, “I never look at numbers but my producer and distributors kept updating me on how well the movie was doing and its collections. I am very happy that it crossed the 100 crore mark. This will set the ball rolling for other films in the industry and the movie business here will boom.”

With this flick, director A R Murugadoss becomes the first-ever Kollywood director to enter the 100 crore league in Bollywood and Kollywood. “We had decided right at the onset of the film’s making that it should appeal to the masses, stand a class apart and that it should be the highest grossing Vijay film,” the filmmaker tells us.

The producer, Kalaipuli Thanu, says about his movie’s collections, “Thuppakki crossed 100 crore in the first two weeks of the worldwide release of the film. Exhibitors called to tell me that they earned in just a few days what they would have earned in a year with this film. After MGR and Rajinikanth, it is a Vijay film that makes us happy. He ensured that everyone benefited from the film’s success.”

Murugadoss is remaking the film in Hindi with Akshay Kumar. “Ghajini and Thuppakki were the first to enter the 100 crore club in B’wood and K’wood respectively. Now my target is 200 crore with this Akshay Kumar film,” says Murugadoss.
