Samsaaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram Review

Samsaaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram , which is a romantic comedy is one of the most awaited movies of 2014. The reason for the anticipation is that legendary actor Mammooty's son Dulquer Salman is all set to make his debut with the tamil version of this movie. The movie will be directed by Balaji Mohan who was lauded for his unique narrative in debut movie Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi.

Nazriya Nazim and Madhoo are cast in important female roles. The music of the movie is composed by Sean Roldan, while the cinematography is undertaken by Soundararajan. The venture is produced by Y NOT Studios in association with Radiance Media.

Story

Samsaaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram is a social and political satire which portrays the impact of a rare strain of flu spreads in a village which makes people lose their ability to speak. The movie is set at an imaginary scenic hill top in Idukki. In the movie,Arvind (Dulquer Salmaan) plays a smart and young sales representative, who could convince anyone to buy his products. Anjana (Nazriya) plays a doctor, who is dominated by her boy friend, to an extent where she is not even allowed to wear her glasses. There are other host of characters including writer Sridevi (Madhoo), Minister Prabhakaran Thanchappuzha (ManiyanPillai Raju) and all of them have their own problems due to not expressing themselves properly. As fate would have it, many people get affected by ‘dumb flu’ in Panimalai and lose their voice. A sudden government order bans people from talking in that area to avoid spreading of the disease. When they are allowed to talk later, will they talk what they need to talk? That’s the essence of the movie.

The director has used the metaphor of a flu to represent the society which has already lost it's ability to speak out against wrong and injustice. Through, it's plot and sub characters, the movie aims to show that the lack of communication is root cause of our social and political problems.

Mohan once again excels with his unique narration style with which he perfectly implements his satirical screenplay in the movie. The screenplay of the movie is intelligent and comic in equal measures.

Performances

Dulquer Salmaan has pulled off his role in style. Be it in the first half, when he has to keep talking throughout, or in the second half, when he has to keep his mouth shut, he is mighty impressive.

Nazriya has a nerdy look attached to her throughout the film, which could be because of the role she has taken up in the film.

Madhoo of ‘Roja’ fame has not lost her charisma one bit. She scores in the few scenes and kudos to the director, for bringing her back into  film.

Balaji Mohan also has an extended cameo role as a news presenter, and at times, he imitates famous news presenters of leading news channels.

Arjunan as Arvind’s friend impresses with his innocent acts that turn against him. The rest of the supporting cast fit into their roles aptly.

Verdict: Samsaaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram is a very different movie with a good moral..A must watch movie
